About Us

Martin de Porres Center ProgramsThe Martin de Porres Center is named after the Dominican saint Martin de Porres
(1579-1639), Peruvian-born son of a freed African slave and a Spanish nobleman. Known for his compassion and service to the poor, Martin’s example provides the guiding spirit for the Center. Dedicated to serving others through collaboration and mutuality, the Martin de Porres Center partners with local agencies, churches and organizations that respond to the educational and spiritual needs of God’s people.

Accomplished artists in various media are invited to exhibit their work at the Center, contributing another facet to its contemplative ambiance. Whenever appropriate, the Center offers programming to complement the theme of the art work.

The Institute for Maturing Spirituality, launched in 2009, represents the Center's latest initiative offering the following:

  • programming targeted to adults in the second half of life
  • educational opportunities for those preparing to minister to older
    adults and
  • intergenerational activities to encourage communication between young
    people and elders.
